More About Albany Avenue Elementary School

The positive school climate at Albany Avenue Elementary School embraces the needs, cultures, and strengths of our diverse student community. Our families, faculty, and staff partner closely to create a collaborative learning environment where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to succeed. High levels of parental involvement and an active PTA continue to play a vital role in the academic and social success of our students.

Albany Avenue offers a strong foundation in literacy, helping students develop a lifelong love of reading and writing. Instruction includes independent reading, guided reading and writing, shared reading, and rich read-aloud experiences. Our students also benefit from a wide range of specials, including art, music, library, and physical education. All areas of the curriculum, including our full K–5 Spanish dual-language continuum, are aligned to New York State Learning Standards and reflect our belief that multilingualism expands both opportunity and cultural understanding.

To ensure that every child feels included, connected, and celebrated, Albany Avenue uses a schoolwide house system that fosters belonging, character development, and community. Each student becomes part of a house family that participates in shared learning experiences, schoolwide challenges, and service initiatives designed to integrate academics, leadership, and socio-emotional growth.

We are committed to preparing students to be future-ready. Through meaningful technology integration, student leadership opportunities, hands-on problem solving, and experiences that promote communication and creativity, our students develop the skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Each student receives a Chromebook to support digital learning, and all classrooms emphasize responsible use of technology to deepen thinking rather than simply consume information.

Family engagement remains a core strength at Albany Avenue. Students and families participate together in events such as Parents as Reading Partners (PARP), classroom celebrations, family game nights, and seasonal concerts. A wide range of co-curricular programs, including Safety Club, Math Club, Student Council, and Homework Club, further support academic growth, leadership, and social-emotional development. Services, including reading intervention, math support, ENL, speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and Resource Room, ensure that every child receives what they need to thrive.

Albany Avenue Elementary School is the home of achievers—future-ready learners who feel welcomed, inspired, and eager to grow.
